June 19, 2015 - Regina, Saskatchewan
International Trade Minister Ed Fast today hosted a business round table with more than 20 chief executive officers of Saskatchewan manufacturing companies on the margins of Canada’s Farm Progress Show in Regina, Saskatchewan. Minister Fast highlighted the enormous benefits of Canada’s pro-trade plan to promote jobs and growth and the tools and services available to small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) to increase their exports.
At the round table, Minister Fast announced $130,000 in Invest Canada - Community Initiatives (ICCI) program funding for three Saskatchewan-based economic development organizations—the Northern Saskatchewan Development Council Corporation, the Saskatchewan Economic Development Association and the Saskatoon Regional Economic Development Authority (SREDA)—to support job-creating investment.
“Our government is committed to working with Canadian small and medium-sized enterprises across the country to create jobs and help them seize export opportunities around the world. We will continue to work with the world-class agriculture equipment manufacturers across Canada, ensuring they have the tools and support they need to find success in the global market.”
- Ed Fast, Minister of International Trade
“The ICCI funding is instrumental in creating a provincial environment for attracting and retaining business investment. It supports SEDA’s mandate to assist Saskatchewan communities to grow and direct their economic future.”
- Verona Thibault, Executive Director, Saskatchewan Economic Development Association
“The promotion of the North is crucial to its future development, and the ICCI project funding is a step in the right direction.”
- Douglas Eddy, Executive Director, Northern Saskatchewan Development Council Corporation
“We are part of a global economy, and attracting foreign direct investment to the Saskatoon region is key to growing our local economy. The ICCI funding will enable the Saskatoon Regional Economic Development Authority to expand our international reach, promote investment opportunities to international companies and, ultimately, increase our capacity to attract international investment to the region.”
- Alex Fallon, President and CEO, Saskatoon Regional Economic Development Authority
