June 8, 2015 – Gaspé, Quebec – Parks Canada
The Honourable Denis Lebel, Minister of Infrastructure, Communities and Intergovernmental Affairs, Minister of the Economic Development Agency of Canada for the Regions of Quebec and Member of Parliament for Roberval—Lac-Saint-Jean, on behalf of the Honourable Leona Aglukkaq, Minister of the Environment and Minister responsible for Parks Canada, is proud to announce a $7 million investment to carry out a project for restoring the beach at Cap-des-Rosiers, in Forillon National Park.
Not only will this project serve to restore a beach for the enjoyment of swimmers and walkers, it will also help to re-establish a coastal habitat for many animal and plant species (including, in particular, capelin, for which the beach is a spawning ground). In addition, a range of initiatives will be undertaken with a view to enhancing the visitor experience in this area.
The goal of this large-scale project is to restore the natural dynamics of Cap-des-Rosier’s coastal ecosystem and to protect and present the natural and cultural treasures associated with this environment. Thanks to this innovative project, the local community and visitors to Forillon National Park will soon be able to take advantage of a healthy shoreline and enjoy inspiring experiences in harmony with nature
