The Honourable Peter MacKay, P.C., Q.C., M.P. for Central Nova, Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada, today announced the following appointments:
The Honourable Raymond T. French, a judge of the Court of Queen’s Bench of New Brunswick, Trial Division in Saint John, is appointed a judge of the Court of Appeal of New Brunswick, to replace Mr. Justice B.R. Bell who was appointed to the Federal Court.
Mr. Justice French was appointed to the Court of Queen’s Bench of New Brunswick in 2007. At the time of his appointment, he was a lawyer with Patterson Palmer in Saint John and had previously practised with Eddy & McElman in Fredericton.
Mr. Justice French received a Master of Laws from the London School of Economics in 1987, a Bachelor of Laws 1986 and a Bachelor of Business Administration in 1982, both from the University of New Brunswick. He was admitted to the Bar of New Brunswick in 1988.
The Honourable Richard G. Petrie, a lawyer with Stewart McKelvey in Fredericton, is appointed a judge of the Court of Queen’s Bench of New Brunswick, Trial Division, to replace Mr. Justice French (Saint John) who was elevated to the Court of Appeal of New Brunswick.
Mr. Justice Petrie received a Bachelor of Laws from the University of New Brunswick in 1990 and a Master of Laws in 1991 from the University of Illinois. He was admitted to the Bar of New Brunswick in 1992.
Mr. Justice Petrie has been a partner with Stewart McKelvey since 2000 and also practised with Petrie Richmond Goss from 1992 to 2000 where his main areas of practice were labour law and employment law. He is a member of the Canadian Bar Association and has been a member of the Canadian Association of Counsel to Employers since 2006, of the Law Society of New Brunswick Discipline Committee since 2007, and of the Advisory Committee for New Brunswick Labour and Employment Board since 2009.
These appointments were effective June 2, 2015.
