La Baie, Quebec - 25 June 2015
Hello, everyone.
I just have a few remarks before staying here to meet with people and take some photos.
Colonel Ménard, Minister Lebel, ladies and gentlemen, I am always very happy and proud to visit our men and women in uniform at home and abroad.
I recently had the honour of visiting with some of your colleagues, and perhaps with some of you, in Iraq and Kuwait.
I went to show my unconditional support to you and the mission you have accepted on our country's behalf.
The enemy we face, the so-called Islamic State of Iraq and Syria, has targeted our country, Canada and Canadians, through its words and deeds.
In confronting those terrorists there, you are helping to keep Canadians safe here.
Thank you again for your efforts.
Our thoughts and prayers are with you throughout your mission.
You are the flame keepers of a great Canadian military tradition.
And our Government is bound and determined to give our troops the equipment and the living conditions they need and deserve.
In the past three years, our Government has invested some $7 million in existing infrastructure for this base.
And I’m delighted to announce that as part of our new federal infrastructure initiative, our Government will be investing actually a substantial amount in extensive repairs and upgrade here at CFB Bagotville.
Today's announcement will help to create hundreds of well-paying, high-quality jobs in this region.
And our Government is acting on our commitment to deploy 550 troops to CFB Bagotville.
This air base has been extremely valuable.
The Colonel has told me the whole story; it has been extremely valuable and our Government is determined to make these upgrades so that you can continue to keep Canadians safe.
Thank you again for your warm welcome, and for serving our country proud.
Thank you, everyone.
