OTTAWA — Defence Minister Jason Kenney issued the following statement:
“While taking part in coalition operations against ISIS on June 9, two CF-18 Hornets successfully led their third air strike in Syria. They used precision guided munitions to hit an ISIS compound near Al Hasakah. Furthermore two CF-18s struck an ISIS fighting position yesterday in the vicinity of Bayji in Iraq.
“Although assessment of the damage continues, I can confirm that our Royal Canadian Air Force crew and aircraft have safely returned to base.
“These strikes demonstrate the value the Canadian Armed Forces brings to the fight against ISIS. It is yet another example of the capability of our pilots, as well as the excellence of our aircraft and the advanced nature of our weapons. Together with our Coalition partners, we remain committed to denying ISIS safe haven in the region.”
