Generous donor supports costs for schools to visit Park
June 9, 2015 – Leamington, Ontario – Parks Canada
Dave Van Kesteren, Member of Parliament for Chatham-Kent-Essex, on behalf of the Honourable Leona Aglukkaq, Minister of the Environment and Minister responsible for Parks Canada, today highlighted the contribution of an anonymous donor whose incredible generosity will help connect thousands of local young Canadians to the beauty, tranquility and unique natural heritage of Point Pelee National Park.
During May and June, Parks Canada will be hosting over 25 schools from the Wheatley, Leamington, Kingsville and Essex region, representing over 6,000 kids. These visits are being sponsored by an anonymous donor who loves Point Pelee National Park and wants local kids to have a similar amazing experience of connecting with nature in the park.
During their visit, students will have a whole variety of activities to choose from which includes exploring the Marsh Boardwalk, learning about the conservation work in the park to protect species and their habitat, or hopping on a shuttle to the southernmost tip of Canada. Fun and knowledgeable Parks Canada staff will be on hand to showcase artifacts, lead hikes, demonstrate conservation work and lead bug scoops at the Marsh.
