Andrew Bennett, Canada’s Ambassador for Religious Freedom, today issued the following statement condemning a series of bombings in Iraq yesterday:
“Canada strongly condemns the attacks that took place on Saturday in Baghdad, Mahmoudiya town and Balad Ruz, which killed and injured scores of people.
“I am deeply disturbed by these appalling attacks, particularly as they occurred during the holy month of Ramadan. Such attacks are an affront to human dignity. On behalf of all Canadians, I offer my sincere condolences to the families and friends of those killed and wish a quick recovery to the injured. Our thoughts and prayers are with the people of Iraq.
“Canada condemns in the strongest possible terms all forms of terrorism and stands firmly with the Iraqi people to help strengthen freedom, democracy, human rights and the rule of law in Iraq. Canada remains committed to promoting and defending the right of people to manifest their faith freely and without the threat of violence.”
