July 13, 2015 – Ottawa, ON – Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission
The Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission (CNSC) has approved the certification of the package designed for the transport of Highly Enriched Uranyl Nitrate Liquid (HEUNL). The Record of Decision was issued on July 10, 2015.
On December 28, 2012, the CNSC received an application from NAC International Inc. (NAC) for the certification of the NAC Legal Weight Truck (NAC-LWT) package design intended for the transport of HEUNL from the Canadian Nuclear Laboratories (CNL) facility in Chalk River, Ontario to the United States. CNSC staff assessed the application to ensure that the package design meets all regulatory requirements for the safe transport of HEUNL.
Following the review and disposition of all comments received during two consultation periods, CNSC staff prepared their recommendation to the designated officer for his decision on the certification of the package design.
