Project made possible by the New Building Canada Plan

The Honourable Gail Shea, Minister of Fisheries and Oceans, Regional Minister for PEI and Member of Parliament for Egmont, on behalf of the Honourable Denis Lebel, Minister of Infrastructure, Communities and Intergovernmental Affairs and Minister of the Economic Development Agency of Canada for the Regions of Quebec, was joined today by the Honourable Paula J. Biggar, Minister of Transportation, Infrastructure and Energy for Prince Edward Island, to announce funding of up to $7,476,919 under the New Building Canada Plan for Prince Edward Island's 2015 Highway Rehabilitation Project.
The project consists of 15 rehabilitation and new construction sites along Routes 1 and 2, which are part of the National Highway System. Once complete, this work will significantly improve driver safety and traffic flow along this key transportation route.
The New Building Canada Plan is the largest and longest federal infrastructure plan in Canada's history.
This unprecedented commitment is providing $53 billion to support provincial, territorial and municipal infrastructure between 2014 and 2024.
Over this ten-year period, Prince Edward Island will benefit from approximately $440 million in dedicated federal funding, including more than $277 million under the New Building Canada Fund.
