Kingston, ON - July 22, 2015 – Office of the Minister of the Environment, Parks Canada
Gord Brown, Member of Parliament for Leeds—Grenville, on behalf of the Honourable Leona Aglukkaq, Minister of the Environment and Minister responsible for Parks Canada, today announced infrastructure investments totalling $541,000 at Bellevue House National Historic Site.
Bellevue House’s structure is the best-preserved example of the villa movement in Canada and built with the expectation of Kingston becoming the capital of the United Canada. Its Tuscan Villa style, picturesque qualities and high quality craftsmanship are defining characteristics. By investing in a new climate control system, the Government will protect this heritage building for generations to come.
This project is a result of an unprecedented investment by the Government of Canada to support infrastructure work in our national historic sites, national parks and national marine conservation areas. This investment represents the largest federal infrastructure plan in the 104-year history of Parks Canada, ensuring these cherished places are protected and secured for the future while also creating and protecting jobs and opportunities.
