In November 2014, the Department of National Defence received $452 million for the repair and upgrade of Canadian Armed Forces facilities. Revitalized defence infrastructure across Canada will provide the Canadian Armed Forces with the facilities they need to support troops, military families and Reserve forces, as well as support operations at home and abroad, and to ensure the health and safety of our men and women in uniform.
The Government estimates that accelerated investments will also support the creation of more than 10,000 jobs in Wainwright and other communities across Canada by the end of 2016.
The Government will invest a total of $9 million at the Wainwright Garrison. This includes the construction of a new facility to accommodate the Integrated Personnel Support Centre and construction of an extension to the Wainwright Garrison Health Services Centre. This extension will house dental services for military personnel.
The Wainwright Garrison is home to the Canadian Manoeuvre Training Centre and the 3rd Canadian Division Training Centre.
The base, and its large adjacent training area, is the site of several significant training exercises each year involving Canadian Army and Royal Canadian Air Force units. Forces from Allied nations also use the site for training purposes. The base also serves as Western Canada’s year-round home for basic training and leadership courses for the Canadian Army Regular and Reserve Force.
