Major General (Retired) Mike Ward, Associate Director General of Morale and Welfare Services issued the following statement:
“The Canadian Armed Forces and the Department of National Defence recognize the exceptional challenges that Sergeant Kevin Nanson and his family have faced as the result of his service and sacrifice to our country.
“We are committed to working closely with Sergeant Kevin Nanson and his family to address the concerns raised about his home modification process. We recognize the stress and strain that has been placed upon the Nanson family and we will work with them to ensure this does not happen again.
“This is what the Canadian Armed Forces have committed to Sergeant Nanson and his family:
- He will not be released from the Canadian Armed Forces until the home renovation work is complete according to the original plans and specifications and he is able to move in;
- Until such time, the Nanson family will continue to be able to live in the current barrier-free military housing unit and they will continue to receive the dual residency allowance;
- The home modifications will be completed according to the original plans and specifications associated with mobility needs without any additional funding or monies from the Sergeant; and
- The Canadian Armed Forces will continue to work with the Nanson family and assist with communication with the building professionals and contractors to support Sergeant Nanson through the renovation process.
“Our men and women of the Canadian Armed Forces have served our country with honour and distinction. It is our duty to treat them with respect and honour.”
Sincerely,
Major-General (Retired) Mike Ward
