The Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) reminds travellers to plan ahead for their Labour Day weekend travel.
During this last holiday weekend of the summer, the Pacific Region anticipates higher volumes at all of its border crossings. The land borders normally experience the highest volumes on Sunday and Monday, however we expect steady traffic all weekend.
Be aware that construction at the Aldergrove port of entry is ongoing and the facility has a maximum of two available lanes. We recommend that travellers divert to the Abbotsford-Huntingdon border crossing which often has shorter wait times.
Travelling through Boundary Bay? The summer NEXUS hours will end on Monday, September 7, 2015 with the hours resuming to 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
We encourage travellers to plan ahead and help facilitate their border crossing by following these tips:
1. Check border wait times or follow us on Twitter for hourly updates and to cross at the least busy port of entry in the area. U.S.-bound or Canada-bound information is available.
2. Beat the border rush. Cross as early in the day as possible.
3. Keep travel documents handy. Make sure that each passenger has the correct travel document.
4. Know your purchases, know where your receipts are, and know your personal exemptions and restrictions.
5. Be aware: The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) has implemented measures to protect Canada’s poultry resources from an outbreak of highly pathogenic avian influenza reported in poultry in several states. For more information on the current avian influenza outbreak, please visit the CFIA’s website at www.inspection.gc.ca.
6. Know the contents of your vehicle.
7. If you have more questions about the rules or regulations, please watch our travel tips video, visit our website, or ask the CBSA officer.
