The Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) reminds travellers to plan ahead for their Thanksgiving weekend.
Last year, more than 12,000 vehicles came into Canada through the Okanagan and Kootenay District ports of entry over the Thanksgiving long weekend. The busiest ports of entry were Osoyoos and Roosville, which processed over 3,200 and 2,600 vehicles respectively.
Here are a few tips to make your border crossing experience a little easier:
- Arrive early – traffic tends to build in the afternoon and evenings on both Sunday and Monday of the holiday weekend;
- Be prepared for your border inspection by having the proper documents ready; and
- Declare all goods acquired and/or received while outside of the country.
Please note that the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) has implemented measures to protect Canada’s poultry resources from an outbreak of highly pathogenic avian influenza reported in poultry found in several U.S. states. Please be sure to check the regulations before making your poultry purchase. For more information on the current avian influenza outbreak, please visit the CFIA’s website.
