Government of Canada announces over $2.3M to support Yukon housing construction

This information adds to the news release issued on February 19 outlining CanNor’s support, the businesses and organizations that received funding, and their projects.
The Government of Canada, through CanNor, is providing $2,371,227 for three projects that support improving housing construction in Yukon.
Project information
Project: Heartland Timber Homes expansion
Recipient: First Kaska Construction
Location: Watson Lake, Yukon
Details: This two-year project will purchase new plant equipment to upgrade First Kaska Construction LP’s home manufacturing facility at Heartland Timber Homes. The new equipment will automate parts of the manufacturing process increasing production capacity to help meet demand.
CanNor contribution: Up to $1,203,592
Funding program: REGI
Project: Gaining efficiency by pre-building wall panels
Recipient: NGC Builders Ltd.
Location: Whitehorse, Yukon
Details: This two-year project will see the construction and implementation of a prefabrication facility for the business to prebuild wall panels, framing packages and small modular homes.
CanNor contribution: Up to $950,000 through a repayable contribution
Funding program: IDEANorth
Project: Commercial automation of aluminum operations
Recipient: Northerm Windows and Doors (RAB Energy LP)
Location: Whitehorse, Yukon
Details: This one-year project will expand RAB Northerm Windows and Doors’ commercial aluminum operations in Whitehorse by purchasing CNC (computer numerical control) equipment required to begin on-site fabrication and automation. It will strengthen the company’s ability to provide a more consistent product into the commercial building and housing supply chain across the North, reducing lead times, increasing the customizability offered to clients, reducing the cost of materials and retaining more control over their supply chain.
