Preeceville wastewater treatment facility upgrades to protect Assiniboine River and support local development

Preeceville, Saskatchewan, January 9, 2019 – Investing in modern reliable wastewater services is essential to safeguarding the environment, building healthy sustainable communities and supporting future growth.

Today, the Honourable Ralph Goodale, Minister of Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness, on behalf of the Honourable François-Philippe Champagne, Minister of Infrastructure and Communities, the Honourable Warren Kaeding, Minister of Government Relations, and His Worship Garth Harris, Mayor of Preeceville, announced more than $5.1 million in joint funding to improve Preeceville’s wastewater treatment facility.

The project involves upgrading the community’s existing wastewater storage cells and increasing their capacity, along with improving the system’s overall treatment process. The force main pipe that delivers wastewater to the treatment facility will also be upgraded.

Once complete, the project will improve the quality of wastewater entering the Assiniboine River and support local development.

  • The governments of Canada and Saskatchewan are each contributing up to $1,731,327 to this project through the New Building Canada Fund, while the Town of Preeceville is providing $1,731,846.

  • Through the Investing in Canada infrastructure plan, the Government of Canada is investing more than $180 billion over 12 years in public transit projects, green infrastructure, social infrastructure, trade and transportation routes, and Canada’s rural and northern communities

  • $26.9 billion of this funding is supporting green infrastructure projects, including $5 billion available for investment through the Canada Infrastructure Bank.
