Samuel De Champlain Bridge: Special illumination for International Women’s Day
Montréal, Quebec, March 8, 2021—The Samuel De Champlain Bridge will light up in purple tonight from sunset to 1:00 a.m. to commemorate International Women’s Day.
“There can be no recovery from the pandemic if we do not address systemic challenges and inequalities facing women, which have been exacerbated by the COVID-19 crisis. Governments, businesses, community leaders, and Canadians from coast-to-coast-to-coast must all be part of this critical work.
Today and tomorrow we are bringing together experts, decision-makers, those with lived experience and Canadians from across the country for the Feminist Response and Recovery Summit. Tonight the Samuel De Champlain Bridge will shine in purple in honour of International Women's Day, paying tribute to women across the country and reaffirming our commitment to advance gender-equality.”
— The Honourable Maryam Monsef, Minister for Women and Gender Equality and Economic Development, on behalf of the Honourable Catherine McKenna, Minister of Infrastructure and Communities
