Minister McKenna speaks with Pete Buttigieg, U.S. Secretary of Transportation

May 21, 2021 – Ottawa, Ontario - On Wednesday, Minister of Infrastructure and Communities, the Honourable Catherine McKenna, spoke with U.S. Secretary of Transportation, Pete Buttigieg. They discussed the importance of the Canada-U.S. relationship and their respective infrastructure priorities, including public transit and active transportation, and infrastructure’s importance in creating good jobs, tackling climate change and building more equitable and inclusive communities.
Minister McKenna and Secretary Buttigieg also discussed best practices on sustainable infrastructure investment to ensure the benefits support disadvantaged communities and Indigenous Peoples and that low carbon building materials are incorporated; and on innovative approaches to financing infrastructure and long-term infrastructure planning that builds resilience and drives to net zero emissions by 2050.
