The Government of Canada and FCM support strengthened asset management in Manitoba communities

Town of Winnipeg Beach, Manitoba, November 30, 2022 — Today, the Honourable Dan Vandal, Minister of Northern Affairs, Minister responsible for PrairiesCan, Minister responsible for CanNor and Member of Parliament for Saint-Boniface—Saint-Vital, and Taneen Rudyk, President of the Federation of Canadian Municipalities (FCM), announced an investment of $224,011 in five communities in Manitoba to strengthen data-driven decision-making about key infrastructure and ensure long-term infrastructure performance.

  • The Town of Winnipeg Beach is receiving $40,000 to develop an asset management plan to better understand the current and desired state of infrastructure and the associated costs, levels of service and risks.
  • The Municipality of Roblin is receiving $40,000 to develop its first asset management strategy that will allow it to make more informed budgetary considerations on the renewal of existing assets, develop enhanced maintenance practices and the general improvement of service delivery.
  • The Municipality of Cartwright-Roblin is receiving $50,000 to develop an asset management policy, strategy, and plan that will provide data on municipally-owned key assets.

  • The Municipal Asset Management Program (MAMP) is designed to assist Canadian municipalities in making infrastructure investment decisions based on reliable data and sound asset management practices. 

  • The MAMP provides asset management training, funding and information sharing to enable municipalities to access the data needed to plan effectively. 

  • The $110-million program, funded by the Government of Canada and delivered by the Federation of Canadian Municipalities, has invested more than $65 million in 1,538 municipal asset management projects.
