Backgrounder: City of Saskatoon to benefit from improved public transit and a new leisure centre

Joint funding through the Public Transit Infrastructure Stream (PTIS) and the Community, Culture and Recreation Infrastructure Stream (CCRIS) of the Investing in Canada Infrastructure Program will support public transportation projects and one recreation project in Saskatoon.

The Government of Canada is investing $60,789,075 to support these projects. The Government of Saskatchewan is investing $33,986,861, and the City of Saskatoon is investing $57,196,751 toward these projects.

Through this project Saskatoon will acquire approximately 25 new accessible zero-emission technology buses and 30 diesel buses to renew the existing fleet.

East Side Leisure Centre

The project involves constructing a new district Leisure Centre in the Holmwood Sector. It will be a fully accessible facility with proposed features including a pool for lane swimming and leisure activities, a fitness and weight room as well as multipurpose and childminding spaces.

Bus Rapid Transit System-Supporting Transportation Network Improvements

The project will improve local roadways, pathways, curbs, intersections, drainage areas, and public realm areas to ancillary transit routes connecting to the Red, Green and Blue BRT lines. It will also include stop and shelter development along these routes.

Bus Rapid Transit System-Green Line

The Green Line BRT corridor runs approximately 15 km flowing East - West through Attridge Dr., Preston Ave., College Dr., 1st Ave. N., and 22nd St. The project includes construction of approximately 16 stations with tactile strips, shelters with heating and lights, security cameras, next bus information displays, and benches.
