The Fur Trade at Lachine National Historic Site is opening its doors for a new season

June 6, 2016                                   Montreal, Quebec                                                 Parks Canada Agency

The Fur Trade at Lachine National Historic Site will open its doors from June 18th to September 5th, 2016 for a new season. Visitors will make a trip back to the 19th century, to a time when the fur trade was a key commercial activity.

Located on the shore of Lake Saint-Louis, the Interpretation Centre is in fact an old warehouse built by the North West Company nearly 200 years ago. Thanks to an exhibit that tells the story of trappers, voyageurs, First Nations and bourgeois of the time, you will learn about the lives of these adventurers who helped build Canada. Kids will make interesting discoveries and have fun while taking part in Parks Canada Xplorers Program.

As we near the 150th anniversary of Confederation in 2017, the Government invites Canadians to experience Canada’s remarkable natural heritage and rich history in national parks and national historic sites this summer.

Quote

“The Fur Trade at Lachine National Historic Site is the last witness to the golden age of the fur trade. This ‘industry’ had a major impact on the geographic and economic development of Canada. Many people were directly or indirectly involved with the fur trade, and we are very proud to perpetuate their memory through this historic site.”

Carole Loiselle
Director, Mauricie and Western Quebec Field Unit, Parks Canada Agency
