To mark the first ever Quebec Lighthouse Day on Wednesday July 13th, Parks Canada is organizing a day of activities for the whole family at Pointe-au-Père Lighthouse National Historic Site.

Young and old alike are invited to explore the inspiring world of lighthouses, mariners and navigation through the creation of a large group fresco painting. Families will also be able to explore the site with the new Xplorers booklet. Additionally, Rimouski’s municipal library will set up its “Reading Tent,” and various activities on the topic of lighthouses will be offered. The mascot Parka and other surprises await you. Bring a picnic!

Measuring 33 metres (108 feet) high, the Pointe-au-Père lighthouse is one of the tallest in the country. This emblematic lighthouse, built in 1909, is known for its elegant tower, sleek structure and eight dizzyingly high flying buttresses. Pointe-au-Père lighthouse is a landmark and a source of pride for locals and is testimony to the crucial role this site played in Canada’s maritime history.

As we near the 150th anniversary of Confederation in 2017, the Government invites all Canadians to experience Canada’s remarkable natural heritage and rich history at national parks and national historic sites this summer.
