Kouchibouguac National Park

Established in 1969, Kouchibouguac National Park includes a rich diversity of bogs, salt marshes, tidal rivers, sparkling freshwater systems, sheltered lagoons, abandoned fields, and tall forests characterizing the Maritime Plain Natural Region. The name Kouchibouguac (pronounced “Kou-she-boo-gwack”) is of Mi'kmaq origin and means “river of the long tides”. In 2009, Kouchibouguac was declared a Dark Sky Preserve by the Royal Astronomical Society of Canada.

Project name: South Kouchibouguac Campground - Sense of Arrival Enhancement

Estimated total: $306 K

Project description: Work will be conducted at the entrance of the South Kouchibouguac Campground to improve the sense of arrival and welcome for visitors, including improvements to directional signage, traffic flow, and landscaping.

 

Project name: South Kouchibouguac Campground - Visitor Services Rehabilitation

Estimated total: $722 K

Project description: This project will provide upgrades to various visitor services, including the campground entrance kiosk, the wood storage building, fire pits, and picnic tables.

 

Project name: Interpretation Panel Improvements

Estimated total: $435 K

Project description: Various interpretation panels located throughout Kouchibouguac National Park will be either replaced or improved ensuring that visitors can learn about the natural and cultural significance of the park.

 

Project name: Kellys Building Rehabilitation

Estimated total: $184 K

Project description: The Kellys Concession Building will be upgraded with work including the replacement of asphalt roof shingles, and the rehabilitation of the interior canteen area.

 

Project name: Outdoor Theatre Buildings Rehabilitation and Bench Replacement

Estimated total: $183 K

Project description: To enhance visitor experience, this project will support the upgrading of the outdoor theatre and projection building, as well as providing for the replacement of benches used for seating. 

 

Project name: Rehabilitation of Kellys Bridges and Boardwalks

Estimated total: $137 K

Project description: The wooden planks along the boardwalk at Kellys Day use area will be replaced to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for visitors. This project will also repair corrosion on bridge structures and piles.

 

Project name: Ryans Building Rehabilitation

Estimated total: $126 K

Project description: The Ryans Rental Concession Building at Kouchibouguac National Park will receive a complete rehabilitation of both the exterior and interior of the building.

 

Project name: Rehabilitation of Sewage Collection Pipes

Estimated total: $423 K

Project description: This project will update the sewage collection pipe system in certain areas of the park.

 

Project name: Administration Building and Visitor Reception Centre Upgrades

Estimated total: $366 K

Project description: This project will include upgrades to the administration building electrical wiring to ensure it meets current standards. Additionally, the Visitor Reception Centre theatre will have upgrades conducted to the air duct system to ensure the comfort of visitors. Improvements will also be made to roof and repointing of the masonry for both the Visitor Reception Centre and Administration building.

 

Project name: Kouchibouguac National Park and Fort Beauséjour – Fort Cumberland National Historic Site - Boundary Lines Rehabilitation

Estimated total: $302 K

Project description: This project will provide for surveying of the lands at Kouchibouguac National Park and Fort Beauséjour – Fort Cumberland National Historic Site to better identify boundary lines in support of various standard park management and safety purposes.

 

Project name: Compound Buildings Rehabilitation

Estimated total: $247 K

Project description: This project will upgrade10 compound buildings at Kouchibouguac National Park necessary for the ongoing maintenance and care of the park by staff. Work will include the rehabilitation of exterior doors, siding, garage doors, and windows.

 

Project name: Research Accommodation Building Rehabilitation

Estimated total: $73 K

Project description: This project will rehabilitate the exterior and interior of the Research Accommodation Facility.

 

 

Fort Beauséjour – Fort Cumberland National Historic Site

Originally known as Fort Beauséjour and re-named Fort Cumberland in 1755, this site commemorates the role of the Fort in the struggle between France and Britain, and subsequently between Britain and the American colonies from 1751 to 1783.

Project name: Entrance Road

Estimated total: $33 K

Project description: This project provided for upgrades to the entrance road to the museum, with work including padding and necessary reinforcement of the substructure to strengthen the road prior to paving. This work was completed recently.

 

Project name: New Compound Building

Estimated total: $311 K

Project description: A new compound building was constructed for storage of all site maintenance equipment. This project was recently completed.

 

Project name: Visitor Reception Centre Museum Remediation

Estimated total: $309 K

Project description: This project will ensure the safe removal of asbestos, which was commonly used at the time of construction, from Fort Beauséjour – Fort Cumberland National Historic Site.

 

Fort Gaspareaux National Historic Site

Fort Gaspareaux National Historic Site of Canada is an archaeological site located just outside Port Elgin. The site consists of 1.23 hectares of flat coastal land on the south side of the estuary of the Gaspareaux River and is protected by a substantial sea wall. Its landscape contains archaeological traces of the French Fort Gaspareaux together with 9 graves of Provincial soldiers killed in 1756 while garrisoning the fort.

Project name: Seawall Rehabilitation and Grounds Washout Repair

Estimated total: $52 K

Project description: To improve public safety and cultural resource protection, this project will undertake repairs to the seawall and grounds washout area.
