Parks Canada presented three specialty prizes and two Parks Canada awards to five island students at the Provincial Heritage Fair on May 4th. The awards were presented to students who displayed exceptional projects on a national historic site on Prince Edward Island, or a person, place, or event of National Historic Significance.

Parks Canada specialty awards were presented to: Linda Feng, a Grade 6 student at West Royalty Elementary, for her project on Canadian humanitarian and athlete, Terry Fox; Emily Smith, a Grade 6 student from Sherwood Elementary, who honoured Canadian social activist Nellie McClung; and Morgan Burden, a Grade 8 student from Hernewood Intermediate, for her project on the Alberta 5, the petitioners in the famous “Persons” case.

The Parks Canada Award for the best heritage fair project portraying a person, place, or event of national historic significance was awarded at the closing ceremonies to Alexandra Scales and Elena LeClair, two Grade 5 students from the École François-Buote, for their project on the female counterparts to the Fathers of Confederation in their project entitled “Les Mères de la Confédération”.
