News Release

Exercise coordinated by Greater Fundy Ground Search and Rescue to strengthen area’s emergency readiness capacity

October 17, 2017                         Alma, New Brunswick                      Parks Canada Agency

This past weekend, October 14th and 15th, Fundy National Park was proud to host a mock search and rescue exercise coordinated by the Greater Fundy Ground Search and Rescue Association. The exercise took place on sections of the Fundy Footpath, a 41 km challenging hiking trail along public land that starts at the Fundy Trail Parkway and ends in Fundy National Park.

Through the hard work and dedication of individuals from multiple organizations, including the Search and Rescue Volunteer Association of Canada, the RCMP, the Emergency Measures Organization, and the Joint Rescue Coordination Centre, the exercise was a great success. The participants involved acquired valuable training and experience working together to achieve a strengthened capacity to respond to emergency calls along the Fundy coast. This inter-agency cooperation will help to ensure future rescue operations in the region are resolved efficiently and skillfully.
