Parks Canada is hosting its 48th Annual Christmas Bird Count on Saturday, December 16th at Kouchibouguac National Park. Birdwatchers of all levels, nature lovers, or anyone looking to enjoy a relaxing winter walk in beautiful Kouchibouguac National Park are welcome to participate in this important bird monitoring program.
In managing national parks, Parks Canada maintains or restores ecological integrity and provides Canadians with opportunities to discover and enjoy them. Activities like the Kouchibouguac Christmas Bird Count, encourage more Canadians, including youth and newcomers, to experience the outdoors and learn about our environment.
The Annual Christmas Bird Count is one of the longest running wildlife sampling in the world. Over 400 sites are surveyed each year across Canada and Kouchibouguac National Park is one of 20 sites surveyed in New Brunswick. Christmas Bird Counts are coordinated by the National Audubon Society, a non-profit environmental organization dedicated to conservation. Audubon is one of the oldest of such organizations in the world and uses science, education, and grassroots advocacy to advance its conservation mission. Data from Kouchibouguac National Park’s event helps to document bird species diversity and numbers across North America and the globe.
