Chignecto Isthmus Management Plan Tabled in Parliament
News release
Parks Canada announces plan to connect Canadians to heritage in the Chignecto area
October 26, 2018 Moncton, New Brunswick Parks Canada Agency
National historic sites reflect the rich and varied heritage of our nation, and their protection is important for Canadians across the country, and for the Government of Canada. The management plan for the Chignecto Isthmus national historic sites was tabled in Parliament recently. Reviewed every 10 years, management plans are a legislative requirement of the Canada National Parks Act and guide the management of Parks Canada’s places. This management plan will help preserve our history and heritage in the Chignecto Isthmus national historic sites.
The new plan for the Chignecto Isthmus national historic sites outlines the following key strategies:
- Establishing the Chignecto Isthmus national historic sites as inter-linked, “must-see” attractions in the region;
- Increasing collaboration with people who value the Chignecto Isthmus national historic sites; and
- Improving the management, protection and presentation of the Chignecto Isthmus national historic sites’ cultural and natural resources.
The plan was developed through public consultation and based on input from local residents and organizations, visitors, stakeholders, partners and Indigenous communities of New Brunswick and Nova Scotia. Through this management plan, Parks Canada is meeting its promise to protect and present Canada’s cultural heritage while also providing an opportunity for Canadians to experience and discover our diverse history in new and exciting ways.
In 2018 and beyond, the Government of Canada is celebrating families with free admission to all Parks Canada’s places for youth 17 and under. Parks Canada’s national heritage places are a great way for Canadians to experience the outdoors and learn more about our environment and heritage.
The Chignecto Isthmus Management Plan is available on the Parks Canada’s website at: https://www.pc.gc.ca/en/lhn-nhs/nb/beausejour/info/gestion-management-2018.
