Diversity, Equity and Inclusion

Diversity, equity and inclusion are important values to the Parole Board of Canada (PBC). The PBC is committed to addressing systemic barriers within its policies and operations and combatting racism and discrimination within its workplace.

To advance diversity, equity and inclusion, the PBC:

  • Ensures policies respect gender, ethnic, cultural and linguistic differences and are responsive to groups with specific requirements;
  • Uses an intersectional approach, and applies a trauma-informed lens, when reviewing and developing policies, programs, training and services;
  • Actively works towards addressing the over-representation of Black and Indigenous people in the criminal justice system and improving accessibility to pardons, while ensuring public safety and supporting community reintegration;
  • Respects five overarching guiding principles in conditional release decision-making for women: gender-responsive, culturally aware, trauma-informed, holistic, and partnership-based.
  • Continues to work collaboratively with diverse communities to understand and meet their needs; and
  • Invests in a diverse, inclusive and informed workforce of Board members and staff through hiring practices and training.
