Employee spotlight – Stephanie Lambert

Meet Stephanie Lambert, Communications Officer, Manitoba Region Communications at PrairiesCan
Based out of PrairiesCan’s Winnipeg office, Steph is part of the team behind PrairiesCan’s public voice—making sure the stories of regional success, innovation, and growth are heard and celebrated across Manitoba and beyond. Since joining the department in September 2024, Steph has played a key role in developing communications materials that support our Minister’s funding announcements, illustrate clients’ successes, and guide funding proponents through the communications process. “A typical day for me is supporting the team and current priorities,” she shares. “That could mean anything from walking a recipient through the communications portion of their contribution agreement to crafting stories about what they are achieving.” As part of a collaborative team that includes project officers and analysts, Stephanie helps connect the dots between government programs and the people they serve— demonstrating PrairiesCan’s impact on the Prairies. “This collaborative approach allows us to accurately showcase the amazing work that is happening in our province,” she says.
A purpose-driven path to public service
Before joining PrairiesCan, Steph spent over a decade in Manitoba’s non-profit sector focused on fundraising and relationship-building. That experience taught her how to listen closely, communicate effectively, and connect meaningfully with diverse audiences—skills that now help shape her work in federal economic development. “Supporting others has been a common thread throughout my life,” she reflects. “Whether it was coaching sports or raising awareness for meaningful causes, I’ve always enjoyed helping people reach their goals.” It was this passion for people—and a desire for a new challenge—that brought her to PrairiesCan. “Working on the communications team allows me to continuously learn, build on my existing skills, and expand my definition of relationship management.”
Telling stories that matter
For Stephanie, her work is more than mere writing assignments — it is about spotlighting the power and potential of entrepreneurs and communities across Manitoba. “These stories don’t just showcase job creation or financial impacts,” she says. “They show the province—and the country—what Manitobans are capable of. They help others see the possibilities within themselves.” She sees this as a vital function of one of PrairiesCan’s greatest contributions: turning support into confidence, and investment into impact and inspiration. Steph believes PrairiesCan’s value extends far beyond funding. “This department’s work contributes to broader economic goals not just through financial support, but through emotional support as well,” she explains. “We demonstrate to organizations and individuals that what they are doing matters—and that there are people out there who believe in them and their goals.
Steph’s career advice
Her number one tip for anyone considering a role in government or economic development? “Network!” she says. “Get to know the different agencies and departments—and the people in them. It was through my network that I learned PrairiesCan existed and the amazing work the staff do. Without it, I wouldn’t be here.”
Stephanie, beyond the office
Growing up as an only child in small company towns in Manitoba and Ontario, Steph developed a love for activity and adventure early on. Today, that passion is still very much a part of her life. In the winter, she enjoys skijoring—cross-country skiing while her dog, Sásta, leads the way—and in the warmer months, she heads out of the city to go camping as often as she can.
