Consultation: The Building a Green Prairie Economy Act

The Building a Green Prairie Economy Act

Current status: Open

Consultations will be open from April 21, 2023 to June 30, 2023.

PrairiesCan is undertaking consultations on the Building a Green Prairie Economy Act. This Act was launched and championed by the late Honourable Jim Carr, who always had the Prairies at heart in everything he did.

At its core, the Act is about working collaboratively with all partners to focus efforts to grow a green Prairie economy that is sustainable and inclusive, and that supports well-paying jobs for Canadian workers across our region.

The Act calls for consultations with Prairie provinces, municipal and Indigenous governments, industry, and labour organizations to build a framework for local cooperation and engagement to grow the region’s green economy.

PrairiesCan wants to hear your ideas on green economic development opportunities for the Prairies, what is needed to advance them, and how to strengthen collaboration to seize new opportunities for the Prairies to grow sustainably in a competitive global economy. The input received will be used to help build the framework, which must be tabled in Parliament by December 2023.

Feedback is open to all, and a short discussion paper and questions have been prepared that highlight the regional economic context and key opportunities being pursued across the Prairies.
