Message from the Clerk to Public Servants on National Flag of Canada Day
Statements
Fifty-two years ago today, the Canadian flag was raised on Parliament Hill for the very first time, and every year since 1996, on February 15, we celebrate National Flag of Canada Day.
It is a powerful symbol of Canadian identity, uniting citizens across our great country. No matter where it flies, it represents Canada’s greatest and deepest values.
As we celebrate the 150th anniversary of Confederation, let us continue to highlight the importance of our flag as a reminder of so many of our country’s great accomplishments.
I encourage you to take part in Canadian Heritage’s Share your Moment with the Flag Challenge.
Be sure to use the #CanadianFlag hashtag and show your pride in our flag and as public servants.
Yours sincerely,
Michael Wernick
Clerk of the Privy Council and Secretary to the Cabinet
