Haemophilus influenzae disease

Risks

What are the risks of getting invasive Haemophilus influenzae?

Babies and children under 5 are most at risk for developing invasive disease caused by some types of Haemophilus influenzae (Hi). They are also most likely to suffer from complications of the disease.

Getting your children vaccinated is necessary to reduce their risk of getting Hi type b (Hib). Before the introduction of the Hib vaccine, Hib was the most common cause of childhood bacterial meningitis, which is a very serious illness.

If your children have not been vaccinated, they are at risk of infection.
