Firearm validation for individuals
Validation process
Firearms collected through the Assault-Style Firearms Compensation Program by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) or participating local police under this program will be sent in consolidated shipments to a processing facility where they will be validated and destroyed. Firearms collected through mobile collection units will be validated and destroyed on site. Before your payment is issued, these validations will ensure that:
- firearms turned in match what was submitted in your claim, including quantities, makes, models and serial numbers (if applicable)
- firearms are "complete" and assembled to be eligible for compensation; and
- all deactivation and shipment (if applicable) records submitted as part of your claim are accurate
Once all validations are complete:
- your claim will be processed for payment. See the compensation process for more information; and
- turned in firearms will be destroyed
Any items turned in to the program that are not included on the list of firearms for individuals will not be returned and will be destroyed without compensation.
Status of my claim
After you have submitted your claim and turned in your firearms, you can track the status of your claim through your online portal account. After all validations are complete, payment of your claim will be issued within 45 business days.
