Firearm validation for individuals
Validation process
The following validations must be completed before your payment is issued:
For firearms that have been turned in
Firearms collected through the Assault-Style Firearms Compensation Program by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) or participating local police under this program will be validated and destroyed at a processing facility. Firearms collected through mobile collection units will be validated and destroyed on site. Validations will ensure that:
- firearms turned in match what was submitted in your claim, including quantities, makes, models and serial numbers (if applicable)
- firearms are "complete" and fully assembled to be eligible for compensation
Any items turned in to the program that are not included on the list of firearms for individuals will not be returned and will be destroyed without compensation.
For firearms that have been deactivated
Once your firearm has been permanently deactivated by a business authorized by the RCMP to perform deactivations and you've uploaded your completed forms to your web portal account, all deactivation and shipment (if applicable) records will be validated for accuracy.
Once all collection and deactivation validations are complete your claim will be processed for payment. See the compensation process for more information.
Status of my claim
After you have submitted your claim and turned in or deactivated your firearms, you can track the status of your claim through your web portal account. After all validations are complete, payment of your claim will be issued within 45 business days.
