Statement by the Honourable Ralph Goodale, Minister of Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness, regarding the death of RCMP Constable Dubuc

Ottawa, March 7, 2017 – Today, the Honourable Ralph Goodale, Minister of Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness, made the following statement regarding an on-duty incident that led to the death of Quebec RCMP Constable Richer Dubuc.

“On behalf of all Canadians, I would like to extend my deepest condolences to the family, friends, and colleagues of RCMP Constable Richer Dubuc, who passed away following an on-duty auto collision last evening. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and loved ones during this incredibly difficult time.

The death of an officer is a reminder of the sacrifices, bravery and commitment of the men and women who put themselves in harm's way each day to keep our country safe and secure.

Commissioner Paulson has offered the RCMP’s full support to Constable Richer Dubuc’s family, and also to RCMP personnel as they grieve the tragic loss of their colleague. The RCMP takes the safety and security of its members very seriously. Sûreté du Québec’s investigation into this incident is underway and information will be shared as it becomes available.”
