The Canadian Firearms Advisory Committee (CFAC) met in Ottawa yesterday to provide advice on Canada’s firearms policies, laws and regulations to ensure public safety. This was the second meeting since the CFAC was renewed earlier this year by the Honourable Ralph Goodale, Minister of Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness, to ensure Canadians’ views are considered by the government in developing firearms policy.

There are currently nine individuals serving on the CFAC. Members include law enforcement officers, public health advocates, representatives from women’s groups and conservation organizations, civilian firearms users, farmers and members of the legal community.

Quotes

“The CFAC members are providing important advice to the government as we work to protect the health and safety of Canadians while respecting the rights of law-abiding gun owners and collectors. I am grateful members are willing to engage in a frank and open discussion on a range of firearms issues.”

- The Honourable Ralph Goodale, Minister of Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness
