Minister Goodale hosts second meeting of the Canadian Firearms Advisory Committee

The Canadian Firearms Advisory Committee (CFAC) met in Ottawa yesterday to provide advice on Canada’s firearms policies, laws and regulations to ensure public safety. This was the second meeting since the CFAC was renewed earlier this year by the Honourable Ralph Goodale, Minister of Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness, to ensure Canadians’ views are considered by the government in developing firearms policy. 

There are currently nine individuals serving on the CFAC. Members include law enforcement officers, public health advocates, representatives from women’s groups and conservation organizations, civilian firearms users, farmers and members of the legal community.

  • Up to 15 individuals can be appointed to the committee by the Honourable Ralph Goodale, Minister of Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness.

  • Public Safety Canada serves as the Secretariat for the CFAC. Meetings are held at the discretion of the Minister with at least one in-person meeting per year.
