Training the next generation of professionals today

May 17, 2018 - Gatineau, Quebec - Public Services and Procurement Canada

The Translation Bureau is solidifying its position as a centre of excellence for linguistic services and supports the Government of Canada in its commitment to promoting official languages.

Today, Steven MacKinnon, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Public Services and Procurement, announced that the Translation Bureau is putting in place a partnership strategy formalizing its initial agreement with the Ordre des traducteurs, terminologues et interprètes agréés du Québec (OTTIAQ). Stéphan Déry, Chief Executive Officer of the Translation Bureau, Diane Cousineau, Chief Executive Officer of OTTIAQ, and Réal Paquette, President of OTTIAQ’s Board of Directors, have just signed a memorandum of understanding to this effect. This agreement will support OTTIAQ’s mentorship program by allowing new translation graduates, from universities whose programs are recognized by OTTIAQ, to have a sufficiently high volume of translation to meet the program criteria.

In addition to being an integral part of the Bureau’s modernized vision, this partnership is consistent with the Bureau’s objectives to support the language industry and to contribute to the training of the next generation of language professionals. The Bureau also plans to enter into other agreements in the near future.

The Translation Bureau’s vision consists of improving quality, succession planning and enhancing the vitality of the Canadian translation and interpretation community by establishing links with key stakeholders. The partnership strategy will enable best practices with external collaborators to be implemented and will help develop the expertise and knowledge of language professionals.

“The signing of the memorandum of understanding between the Translation Bureau and the Ordre is a new milestone in providing greater protection to the public.
