Job Summary
CSIS seeks a library technician to support open-source library services, including acquisitions, cataloguing, and serials management. The role involves processing diverse materials (books, electronic documents, websites) to ensure accurate cataloguing in an integrated library system, while providing assistance to clients.
Key Responsibilities
Cataloguing & Acquisitions:
- Analyze and catalog materials in compliance with library and CSIS standards.
- Evaluate and process acquisitions from suppliers.
- Ensure financial accuracy by reconciling expenditures, coding transactions to appropriate cost centres, and applying Section 34 of the Financial Administration Act & Regulations.
Client Services:
- Provide reference support, troubleshoot system issues, and assist clients in accessing information.
- Manage loans, renewals, and overdue materials.
Database & Systems Management:
- Maintain circulation and serial control records.
- Ensure compatibility of external data with corporate systems.
Training & Procedures:
- Develop and maintain procedures, including mentoring and coaching colleagues.
Education
- Successful completion of a college or university diploma in Library Science or Information Science.
Experience
Two (2) years of the following experiences:
- Experience working with records, data and publications (print or digital).
- Experience working in a client service environment.
- Experience using an integrated library system or a records management system.

Assets
An asset qualification is a qualification which can enhance the ability to perform the work based on current and future business requirements, but which is not strictly required. Positions will be staffed based on the selection decision principle and operational priorities.
- Experience working as a library technician or information technician in either a library, records management unit, or an information centre environment.
- Experience in cataloguing, database management or acquisition.
- Experience using technologies (such as but not limited to: AI and Sharepoint) to support automation and efficiencies
