Job Summary
- Administer polygraph examinations by preparing examination questions in cooperation with security interviewers and operational investigators, ensuring that the subjects understand, are receptive and properly stimulated, analyzing results, reviewing charts and video recording, making recommendations and ensuring follow-up should anything be detected.
- Design test type and questions for polygraph examinations of employees, candidates, sources of information and targets of investigation.
- Liaise with foreign Services and domestic law enforcement agencies by providing them with expertise and advanced training in polygraphy.
- Conduct polygraph examinations in support of internal investigations and provide advice to management.
- Participate in an awareness program promoting acceptability of the polygraph program and participate in review committees to ensure the program remains focussed on meeting the needs of the organization.
- Assist with training and development of new polygraphist as a mentor.
- Maintain and ensure technical equipments are in good condition by conducting regular testing and recommending repairs/replacement/acquisition.
- Liaise with other departments/agencies as lead agency in the Government and render any assistance/advise necessary.
- Conduct lectures at CSIS operational courses on the use of the polygraph as a support tool to investigations.
Education
- Undergraduate degree* and four (4) years of experience**
- College diploma* and seven (7) years of experience**
- High school diploma and eleven (11) of years of experience**
The educational program must be from an accredited learning institution recognized in Canada. If you completed a program outside of Canada, you will be required to obtain proof of a Canadian equivalency at your expense from an accredited learning institution recognized in Canada.
Any higher level of education (i.e.: Masters, Doctorate) in a related field of study could be recognized as experience.
Experience
** Experience conducting high complexity*** interviews in one or more fields such as internal security, security screening, human resources, various investigative capacities (Child protective services, detention environment, auditing, etc.), and investigations or work related to human source operations.
*** High complexity can be demonstrated through the length or frequency of interviews and/or the content and circumstances characterizing such interviews.
Candidates must also possess:
- Significant**** experience dealing with people at all levels, including management; and
- Significant**** experience writing high complexity reports.
****Significant is defined as the depth and breadth of experience normally acquired over a period of four (4) or more consecutive years.

Assets
An asset qualification is a qualification which can enhance the ability to perform the work based on current and future business requirements, but which is not strictly required. Positions will be staffed based on the selection decision principle and operational priorities.

Conditions of Employment
- Upon appointment, an employee shall remain in the new position for four (4) years.
- The successful candidate must pass the basic Examiner Training. This training is normally three (3) months in duration, and may require evening work or stay in residence followed by a CSIS internship.
- Successful candidates must be available for the training which is anticipated in January 2027. Preparation for the training will commence within the branch approximately two (2) months prior to training.
- The candidate will be required to travel in support of the programs across Canada and abroad.
- Candidates will be hired on a determinate “term” basis pending successful completion of listed Conditions of Employment.
- Failure to meet the Conditions of Employment listed will result in termination of term employment with the unit.
