Modernization at SSC
Modernization
at Shared Services Canada
In line with the Government of Canada’s Digital Ambition, Shared Services Canada (SSC) is working to better serve Canadians in a digital age through modern, integrated systems. These continuous modernization efforts relate to areas such as how government employees work, how departments host their data and how we support them to update applications.
What modernization means to us
It drives us and never stops
In technology, almost as soon as something is updated, it gets old—and then it needs to be updated again. For SSC, modernization is a continuous process, not an end point. It’s the driving force behind what we do every day: working with other government departments to provide secure and reliable networks, modern tools and client-centric digital services for Canadians.
Modernization is crucial to our department’s future. We need to ensure the systems, solutions and infrastructure we manage can support service delivery to Canadians and meet emerging demands, like the increasing use of artificial intelligence. It’s also important to free up resources from supporting older systems and technologies that may be expensive to run and may pose security vulnerabilities.
It’s core to everything we do
Modernization isn’t just a concern for one part of SSC. It cuts across everything our department does, from adjusting Government of Canada (GC) networks to be responsive to current and future needs, to helping other government organizations transform the passport-issuance system.
SSC focuses on updating IT infrastructure and services for the GC as a whole, but we also support federal departments and agencies when they want to modernize IT elements they manage, such as software applications. Overall, SSC’s approach to modernization is to constantly move forward together with our partners to provide digital services that meet Canadians’ needs today and into the future.
