Designing SSC: Meet SSC’s creative powerhouse

Meet Stéphane, Annie, Glenis and Zoë: the creative minds shaping Shared Services Canada’s visual identity. From motion graphics and intranet platforms to national campaigns and consistent branding, this small but mighty design squad helps SSC tell its story. They create a narrative that reflects the true impact of our work—translating complex technical content into clear, compelling and resonating visuals.

Design team

Led by Stéphane Lévesque, Design Team Lead since 2018, the squad includes designers Annie Chan, Glenis El-Beyrouti, and Zoë Doucette. “While I oversee the team’s work, I still stay hands-on,” says Stéphane. “I’ve been in graphic design for over 20 years, and I love it, so I like to keep a few projects for myself!”

You probably noticed SSC’s Wi-Fi maple leaf symbol? Stéphane is the creator of this project, which unified the department’s look and gave SSC one voice.

Annie joined SSC in 2020 during the pandemic, bringing with her a fast-paced marketing background and a passion for turning ideas into clear, engaging visual stories. One of her key contributions was on MySSC+, SSC’s redesigned intranet platform. She focused on clean, accessible visuals and user-friendly layouts. “The initiative successfully addressed usability challenges and improved employee interaction with the platform,” she says. “It was a real team effort, and we were thrilled when the project won an award for its impact.”

She also helped develop Delivering Digital Solutions Together for Canada, creating infographics and roadmaps that aligned SSC’s goals with those of its partners. “When I design, my goal is to make things look great and help convey the message—clear, visually appealing and actually useful,” she says.

“What I love most about working at SSC is the team spirit and constant push for innovation. It’s inspiring to be surrounded by creative, driven people who are always learning and supporting each other. It definitely keeps me motivated every day!”

Innovation Fair

Glenis brings energy through motion graphics. From promotional videos to animations for events like the Innovation Fair, he’s added life to SSC’s digital communications. “The largest one recently being SSC’s Innovation Fair, where I took the lead on its visual identity and video products. The in-person event showcased an immense variety of projects and hard-working teams at SSC. The visual identity and products that I developed for the event helped give it a unique, high-tech, engaging and welcoming flair,” he says.

Zoë describes herself as a visual editor. “That means I don’t just create visuals; I help shape how information is seen and understood.” With a background in industrial design, she even laser-cut a 12-foot 3D “TEDxSSCWomen” sign for a past event. From social media cards to refreshed templates, she focuses on clarity and accessibility. “If it doesn’t serve the message, it doesn’t make the cut.”

Ensuring that the content is accessible to audiences is a shared focus for our design team. “One ongoing challenge is accessibility. Making sure our products are inclusive and accessible to everyone, while still looking great, means constantly adapting our tools, document types and visuals to meet high standards,” says Stéphane.

Though their work often goes unnoticed, the team helps shape how SSC delivers services. “Design might not always be front and centre, but it’s everywhere,” says Annie. “Our work helps improve internal processes, simplifies communications and makes digital tools more accessible.” As Glenis puts it: “Visual products that everyone can be proud of help ease communications in all directions.”

SSC is the digital backbone of the GC. The Design Team’s story is just one example of how our employees work behind the scenes to ensure the GC is powered to deliver when Canadians need it most.
