Shared Services Canada’s support for the 2025 G7 Leaders’ Summit

From June 15 to 17, 2025, global attention focused on Kananaskis, Alberta, as Canada hosted the 2025 G7 Leaders’ Summit. This high-profile event brought global leaders together to address today’s most pressing issues. Behind the scenes, Shared Services Canada (SSC) played a critical role: delivering vital IT services to ensure the Summit’s success.

Delivering seamless tech for global collaboration

Hosting a summit of this scale required exceptional preparation to ensure the smooth and secure interplay of technology for the Government of Canada, international delegations and global media. SSC began planning for the Summit over a year in advance to deliver reliable, high-quality digital infrastructure.

SSC provided a range of essential services, including:

  • building and managing secure standalone IT infrastructure that enabled real-time communication for G7 participants and worldwide media
  • working with telecommunication providers to ensure strong network performance and upgraded infrastructure
  • delivering voice and data services to over 50 locations for all GC departments involved
  • providing 24/7 on-site network, telecommunication and IT support to participating departments, broadcasters and foreign delegations
  • working with security partners to protect systems from cyber threats

Securing the Summit’s digital landscape

SSC played a key role in protecting the Summit’s digital infrastructure. We deployed specialized IT security equipment, including firewalls, security information and event management tools, as well as security infrastructure management devices. These tools helped:

  • inspect and filter network traffic
  • collect and analyze security event data
  • manage the deployed IT security systems

This work ensured that the Summit’s networks and systems were protected from cyber threats.

Connecting journalists on the move

To help journalists stay connected and productive while on the move, SSC delivered uninterrupted high-speed Internet access on media buses travelling between the International Media Centre in Banff and the G7 event site at Pomeroy Kananaskis Mountain Lodge.

Each bus was equipped with satellite dishes and Wi-Fi access points, creating mobile workspaces that allowed journalists to stay informed and report in real time—even in areas with no existing connectivity services.

Creating a lasting legacy for the Bow Valley

SSC left a lasting impact in the Bow Valley region by permanently bolstering telecommunications infrastructure throughout the area where the Summit took place. This will benefit residents, businesses and visitors for years to come.
