New PRESTO-enabled fare gates in full swing at TTC's Main Street Station

News Release

Twenty-seven subway stations are now PRESTO-enabled

April 8, 2016 – Toronto, Ontario

The PRESTO rollout on the Toronto Transit Commission (TTC) continues with new fare gates now in place at Main Street Subway Station.

The new gates provide an unobstructed and accessible path into the station and offer greater flexibility for customers. Fare gates will be installed at the primary entrances of the 42 remaining subway stations that are not yet PRESTO-enabled by the end of 2016. The gates will be configured for PRESTO card and Metropass users.

PRESTO devices will also be installed on buses starting later this spring and on Wheel-Trans buses this summer to ensure PRESTO will be available across the entire TTC network by the end of the year.

When PRESTO is fully-deployed, there will be more than 10,000 electronic fare payment devices on buses and streetcars and in subway stations to provide the 1.8 million people who ride the TTC each weekday with a modern, fast and convenient way to pay for transit.

Roll-out on 230 of the old TTC streetcars was completed at the end of 2015, and all new streetcars are PRESTO-enabled as they enter service.

This project is jointly supported by all levels of government.
