Subject: Student Rates of Pay

The Secretary of the Treasury Board has approved new rates of pay effective May 1, 2022, for all students hired under Treasury Board Student Employment Programs.

The new rates for 2022 reflect a one point five percent (1.5%) increase for 2020 and one point five percent (1.5%) increase for 2021. Please refer to Appendix A for the new rates of pay.

The rate of pay for the secondary students has been adjusted to the current highest provincial/territorial minimum wage, found in Nunavut ($16.00). Students attending college to participate in a recognized university degree program (such as a bachelor’s degree) may be remunerated at the appropriate university rate.

The new rates of pay are available on the TBS Web site.

Please note that the rates of pay for students may be applied to Separate Employers as required.

All questions should be directed to your Designated Departmental Corporate Labour Relations or Designated Corporate Compensation Official who, if required, will direct their questions to the Compensation Policy, Interpretations and Pay Administration team, Interpretations@tbs-sct.gc.ca.
