2022/2023 Public Service Employee Survey Respondent Distribution by Demographic Characteristics

Due to rounding, percentages may not add to 100. Total responses reflect the number of respondents who answered the demographic question and have not been adjusted for non-response. The distribution of respondents by demographic characteristics is shown for reference purposes only and should never be used to determine the demographic composition of the federal public service. Suppression due to low respondent counts are shown as blank.

Important note on the unweighted respondent profile

The unweighted distribution of respondents by demographic characteristics is shown for reference purposes only and should never be used to determine the demographic composition of the federal public service. The unweighted respondents profile represents those who responded to the survey, and not the public service workforce itself.

The tables published on Canada.ca provide weighted proportions, to be representative of the workforce.

For example, PSES 2022-2023 informs us that 53% of the surveyed population identifies as is a woman (gender question). The fact that 61% of respondents (unweighted count) indicated "female" informs about who tended to respond, and does not inform about the surveyed population.

Additional differences in the unweighted profiles, as compared to published estimates, may stem from percentages and answer counts being rounded to protect the confidentiality of respondents. For more information on definitions, data sources and methods please visit Surveys and statistical programs - Public Service Employee Survey (PSES) (statcan.gc.ca).
