Career development initiative for Black, Indigenous and Racialized communicators
The Communications Community Office (CCO) helps communications professionals in the Government of Canada (GoC) enhance their skills and abilities and grow their careers.
The CCO is developing a Career Development Initiative (CDI) to recruit and advance the careers of Black, Indigenous and Racialized (BIR) communicators working in the Federal Public Service. The CDI’s activities and programs will be established based on the four directives from the Clerk’s Call to Action on Anti-Racism, Equity, and Inclusion in the Federal Public Service -- appoint, sponsor, support, and recruit.
Community dialogues
The CCO hosted Community Dialogue sessions to hear from BIR communicators, based on their professional and lived experiences, and to help shape the outcomes of the new CDI.
The CCO held three sessions for BIR communicators in February and March 2023. These were:
- Session for federal racialized communicators – February 7th
- Session for federal Black communicators – March 1st
- Session for federal Indigenous communicators (First Nation, Inuk (Inuit), or Metis) – March 20th
Thank you to everyone who participated and contributed to these sessions. We have learned from each of you and will report back to the community. A survey for all BIR communicators will also be launched in early April. Stay tuned!
Everything we learned will be used to inform our report and the design of the CDI.
If you would like more information on the initiative, please reach out to our team at info@cco-bcc.gc.ca.
