Prince County Veterans and family members to benefit from expanded services from Veterans Affairs Canada

News release

August 30, 2019 – Summerside, Prince Edward Island – Veterans Affairs Canada

The Government of Canada is committed to providing Canada’s Veterans and their families the care and support they need, when and where they need it. Veterans Affairs Canada is planning to expand outreach to Veterans and their families in Summerside, P.E.I. so they can get the assistance they need in their community and in the place they feel most comfortable.

As of 19 September 2019, a monthly onsite presence of a case manager and Royal Canadian Legion service officer at the Summerside Royal Canadian Legion branch will allow Veterans and their families to have more direct access to services and benefits. On the third Thursday of each month, they will be able to avoid the commute to the Charlottetown area office, and still have a face-to-face meeting in the comfort of their own community.

Veterans Affairs staff will be present to share information and answer questions about services and benefits, provide assistance with online applications and submitting receipts, as well as other services.

Quotes

“I am extremely proud to announce we will be doing more to provide accessible services for Island Veterans and their families who live in the Summerside area. It is important to give Veterans and their families access to our benefits and services right in their community. These Veterans selflessly answered the call to serve our country, and now we are doing our duty to give them the services they deserve.”

The Honourable Lawrence MacAulay, Minister of Veterans Affairs and Associate Minister of National Defence

“I am very pleased that services through Veterans Affairs will be provided in Summerside to serve Veterans in the Prince County area. I have been working on this for the past two years and now Veterans and their families will have more flexibility to access the benefits and services they require.”
