What is a woman of impact?

Throughout our country’s history, countless women and girls have made an impact in fields as diverse as the arts, sciences, politics and human rights. Whether they are well-known figures women or working behind the scenes, each of them has made a significant contribution to Canadian society through their dedication, courage and outstanding achievements.

Women of Impact in Canada is an online gallery that celebrates these achievements through photos, biographies and quotations of more than 165 women and girls. It features a series of photographic timelines that highlight historic milestones, as well as an interactive map of Canada, showcasing the remarkable women from coast to coast to coast.

This gallery was created as an educational resource for everyone to learn more about these incredible women and share their stories. The gallery recognizes contributions in five categories: science, technology, engineering and math (STEM); the arts; politics; human rights; and the trailblazers who have made their mark in various domains, many of them as the first woman in their field.
