Brenda Lucki was the second woman appointed as Commissioner of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) in 2018, and she was the first woman to take on that role permanently. Throughout her career with the RCMP from 1986 to 2023, Lucki held positions in Quebec, Ontario, Manitoba, Alberta, Saskatchewan, and at the RCMP Academy. She also participated in international peacekeeping missions in the former Yugoslavia.

Lucki led efforts to modernize the RCMP and address internal challenges. She played a significant role in guiding the force through the COVID-19 pandemic, which included adapting RCMP operations to ensure employee safety while maintaining essential services. Her commitment to fostering a culture of equality and respect within the RCMP has left a lasting impact on the force.

“The fact that we have to identify me by my gender means that we still have some work to do. But I'm OK with it. I'm ready for the work.”
