Support Indigenous 2SLGBTQI+ Peoples
Departments and agencies in the Government of Canada are collaborating to address the priorities of the 2SLGBTQI+ Action Plan. Read the progress made by the Government of Canada from August 2022 to March 2023 on the priority area of Supporting Indigenous 2SLGBTQI+ resilience and resurgence.
Women and Gender Equality Canada
- New 2SLGBTQI+ acronym adopted and encouraged across Government of Canada.
- Senior advisor position appointed to provide advice on unique issues facing Indigenous 2SLGBTQI+ communities.
- A total of 17 organizations with a focus on Indigenous 2SLGBTQI+ people have been supported under the 2SLGBTQI+ Community Capacity Fund and 2SLGBTQI+ Projects Fund to date.
Crown-Indigenous Relations and Northern Affairs Canada (CIRNAC)
- On June 30, 2023, the Minister of Crown–Indigenous Relations announced that close to $2 million was provided in funding for five projects undertaken by 2SLGBTQI+ organizations. This funding will support the organizations in promoting Indigenous 2SLGBTQI+ voices and unique perspectives on effectively protecting and empowering Indigenous 2SLGBTQI+ people.
- These projects, spanning across three provinces, will make concrete and positive differences in the lives of 2SLGBTQI+ people by including their perspectives in policy, programs, and legislation that affects them.
- This accomplishment contributes to advancing the objectives of the Federal 2SLGBTQI+ Action Plan Priority Three: Supporting Indigenous 2SLGBTQI+ Resilience and Resurgence, stating that the “Government of Canada will prioritize community organizations serving 2SLGBTQI+ people as part of its community capacity and project fund.”
