2SLGBTQI+ Action Plan Survey Findings

The 2SLGBTQI+ Action Plan Survey was the first in a series of engagement activities designed to support the development of the 2SLGBTQI+ Action Plan. Conducted by the Federal 2SLGBTQI+ Secretariat, with the support of the Canadian Heritage Policy Research Group, the survey opened on November 27, 2020, and closed on February 28, 2021. A total of 25,636 2SLGBTQI+ people living in Canada responded to the survey, sharing their experiences related to safety, health, housing and homelessness, employment, and discrimination as well as stigma and resilience. Respondents were given the choice to answer questions concerning sexual orientation, gender expression, and/or gender identity.

Survey approach and methodology

Survey participants for this crowdsourced initiative were recruited with the assistance of several community-based organizations, federal departments, through word of mouth, public communications, as well as advertising through 2SLGBTQI+ media sources and social networks. Respondents were given the choice to answer questions concerning sexual orientation, gender identity, and/or gender expression. Results are representative of those who responded to the survey and cannot be used to make generalizations about the entire population of 2SLGBTQI+ people living in Canada. Nevertheless, these data provide important insights into the experiences shared by 2SLGBTQI+ people living in Canada who did participate in the 2SLGBTQI+ Survey.
